McCarthy: Conservative Christians Are Being Silenced in Corporate America, Mainstream Media

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R., Calif.) warned during a speech earlier this month that conservative Christians are being "silenced" in corporate America and the mainstream media.

Speaking in front of the Council for National Policy on May 18, McCarthy said conservative Christians were being increasingly "belittled or forced out of the public square."

"Conservative Christians are being silenced in corporate America and the mainstream media, including on social media, where we get so much of our news today, are trying to discredit or take our words off," he said.

McCarthy pointed to reports like Amazon excluding the Alliance Defending Freedom from its charitable program AmazonSmile. The conservative Christian group opposes same-sex marriage and has been branded a "hate group" by the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center.

"We cannot sit still. I believe if we get criticized for our speech, or if they try to deny it, we should say it louder and more often," McCarthy said. "If ADF is not safe from discrimination, there will be no conservative group [that] is safe."

McCarthy also cited Facebook workers confessing to "routinely" suppressing conservative stories from the "trending" news section as evidence, and he noted how Twitter has censored pro-life advertisements for being "inflammatory."

"Think about that for a moment. They consider a pro-life message to be inflammatory, but not abortion itself, which tears apart innocent human beings in the womb," he said. "These are just a few of the threats that we face today."
