Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein (Calif.) was booed Tuesday night in San Francisco for suggesting that President Donald Trump could be a "good president" while speaking at a Commonwealth Club event.

Feinstein was introduced at the event with a standing ovation from 850 people at the sold-out Herbst Theater, but the environment changed towards the end of her hour-long "conversation" when she did not take the bait to publicly criticize President Donald Trump and call for him to resign or be impeached, SFGate reported.

"At what point do you think the Republican leaders will definitively turn against President Trump?" former Democratic Rep. Ellen Tauscher (Calif.) asked, prompting loud applause from the audience. "They're a little late by my watch. Criticize him publicly and urge his resignation or impeachment."

Feinstein responded that she would rather not comment, and then discussed the impeachment procedure and what it entails. She went on to say that "it's not the greatest thing in the world, that's for sure."

"Look, this man is going to be president most likely for the rest of this term," Feinstein said. "I just hope he has the ability to learn and to change, and if he does, he can be a good president. And that's my hope."

Several people in the audience booed Feinstein's optimism for Trump as she said that she has her own "personal feelings" about the president.

"Yeah, I understand how you feel," Feinstein said, as more people yelled from the audience. "I understand how you feel."
