Democratic Senator: Voters Don't Want to Hear About Trump, Russia All the Time

Democratic Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar suggested Tuesday that her party should spend less time talking about President Donald Trump and Russian bots, and more time focusing on issues voters actually care about.

Klobuchar said at the Center for American Progress Ideas Conference that while anti-Trump enthusiasm could help fuel Democratic victories and the party needed to keep attacking Trump, "we need to move forward, and the way you move forward is emphasizing these economic issues and how people are getting screwed by all kinds of things."

The senator said that when she toured her state, "they’re not asking me about Russian bots, okay? They’re asking me about soybean exports. I mean, this is a true story."

Klobuchar noted that several of her Democratic Senate colleagues like Sens. Joe Donnelly (D., Ind.) and Claire McCaskill (D., Mo.) were running in Midwest states, and winning their races would be paramount to checking Trump's power.

"[Democratic candidates] have got to focus on what their citizens think, and what they want to hear about is the economy and their plans for it," she said. "They don't want to hear about Donald Trump every single minute. I'm telling you right now, that's not what they want to hear about."
