Dem Rep: Trump Family Makes Al Capone, Frank Nitti Look Like 'Good Guys'

Rep. Steve Cohen (D., Tenn.) said on Sunday that President Donald Trump and his family make two famed Italian gangsters "look like good guys."

"It’s a criminal enterprise that he and his family have been engaged in, to run for president and once they got the presidency they monetized it. They’ve done it at the Trump Tower. They’ve done it at the Trump hotels. They’ve done it with the Saudis," Cohen said during an appearance on MSNBC's "Weekends with Alicia Witt," as reported by The Daily Caller.

"This is a criminal enterprise that makes Al Capone and Frank Nitti look like — make them look like they were good guys," Cohen continued.

Cohen also said Trump would have lost in 2016 if he had not paid hush money to Stormy Daniels.

"If he didn’t do what he did, he would not have won the presidency. The hush money to Stormy Daniels, the hush money to Ms. August, involvements with the Russians, and who knows if he paid off Russian hackers," he said.

"Republicans will start to see that there is a cancer on the presidency. This man is an albatross. 2020 is coming up, and they don’t want to lose their seats. And they can do it, because all those people who are standing behind Donald Trump, they risk looking like fools and being voted out," he added.

Cohen has harshly criticized the Trump administration and the GOP in the past. In July, he told former FBI agent Peter Strzok he would give him a Purple Heart if he could. Strzok oversaw the opening of the Russia investigation and sent text messages to FBI lawyer Lisa Page saying "we'll stop" Donald Trump from becoming president.

In August, Cohen faced criticism for wishing Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R., Tenn.), who was elected senator in November, would jump off a bridge, although he called his remarks "obviously humor."
