Dem Rep Indicates Harry Reid Encouraged Her to Run for Senate After Dodging Question on His Involvement

Democratic Rep. Jacky Rosen (Nev.) acknowledged Wednesday that former Nevada Sen. Harry Reid (D.) talked to her about running to unseat Sen. Dean Heller (R., Nev.) in 2018, after first dodging a question about his involvement in her decision to run for the Senate seat.

"I want to get you on the record: Did Harry Reid ask you to run?" MSNBC host Hallie Jackson asked Rosen.

Rosen first dodged the question about Reid, the former Democratic Senate majority leader, and instead said "a lot of people" talked to her about running.

"No one can talk you into this. It's really hard and you have to want to do it, so when I thought about why it is important for the state of Nevada, the hard-working families here, how they need a voice, a common sense person, who is going to listen to what they worry about at the kitchen table and find smart solutions, that's why I decided to run," Rosen said.

Rosen then mentioned how her 21-year-old daughter also encouraged her to run, before Jackson jumped back in to ask again whether Reid was one of the people that spoke to her about running.

"Harry Reid was one of those people, yes," Rosen said.

Rosen has been a congresswoman for less than eight months and is hoping to unseat Heller in the 2018 midterm elections.
