Dem 2020 Presidential Candidate: Democratic Party Is Not Speaking to What Americans Care About

On Friday's "Morning Joe," 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Rep. John Delaney (Md.) said the Democratic Party has not been "speaking to the American people about what they care about."

Mike Brzezinski opened the segment by commenting on a recent focus group of Trump voters who seemed "really broken, just totally depressed and disappointed," but still might support him.

"What does that say about the Democratic Party and about who even potentially could be an inspirational figure?" she asked.

"It says we're not speaking to the American people about what they care about," Delaney said before opining on what the party needs to do.

"I think what the American people are dying for is someone to try and bring us together, to actually bring competence to government, to actually focus on some of the things we agree on," Delaney added.

The senator from Maryland first announced his candidacy in July, writing in a Washington Post op-ed that the Democratic Party needs "a different approach."

He specified on Friday that Democrats need to focus on jobs, pay, and opportunity for children.

"It's not happening right now, is it? ... I couldn't believe what I watched there," Brzezinski said, referencing the Trump focus group. "It was the saddest thing I think I've ever seen."

"But it's moving. They were sold the con, right? You can see the realization," Delaney said, referring to the promises Trump made to the American people.
