Continetti: Virginia Losses Have Energized GOP to Accomplish Something

Washington Free Beacon editor in chief Matthew Continetti said that election losses in Virginia on Tuesday have energized Republicans to accomplish something while they have control of Congress and the White House.

Continetti was on Fox News' "Special Report" Thursday when he responded to guest Michael Crowley that Republicans may have a difficult time to get something meaningful passed Congress, especially tax reform. Continetti argued that it was necessary for the GOP.

"I think Michael makes a good point in the sense that the elections this week have energized Republicans, especially in the House, to get something done," Continetti said. "I think right now, the action remains in the House."

Continetti noted that the House tax reform bill passed through committee along the timetable set out by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R., Wis.).

"Kevin Brady passed the House bill out of his committee just tonight, Thursday," Continetti said. "This is basically going along the calendar that Speaker Ryan had set out some time ago about trying to get the House bill to the floor and passed by the Thanksgiving break. If they're able to do that, then I think that does set up Republicans in the Senate to be in a good position to make that final race toward passing a bill time by Christmastime."
