MSNBC host Chris Matthews snapped at fellow MSNBC host Steve Kornacki and SCOTUSblog's Tom Goldstein on Wednesday regarding Democrats' reaction to President Donald Trump's upcoming Supreme Court nominee.
"The left of the Democratic Party, the progressive base of the Party, and that's minorities, young people, millennials, it's also Hispanics, Latinos, African-Americans, they're tired of losing!" Matthews said. "They're tired of losing!"
Matthews and Kornacki then began talking over one another regarding what Democrats what should do next with Matthews telling Kornacki "you don't understand this." Matthews also said Senate Minority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer (D., N.Y.) needed to use his influence to stop Republicans while in the minority.
"Okay, okay, Steve, let's talk about this in a couple of weeks and see who's right, alright?" Matthews said.
When Kornacki asked Goldstein to weigh in on a way for Democrats to stop Republicans, Goldstein disagreed with Matthews, saying there wasn't a way for Democrats to defeat Trump's nominee in the Senate and not lose in the 2018 midterm elections.
"The real issue is this, Democrats are going to have to vote because there's no procedural way to stop it before the midterm election and there's just too many people who are running in elections, senators, in states that Donald Trump won," Goldstein said. "There's going to be enormous pressure on them since they can't beat the nominee to vote for the nominee so I'll take Chris' bet at ten-to-one."
Goldstein said he believes Trump's nominee would be confirmed 56-44.
"What you just said sir, is not acceptable politically to the Democratic base!" Matthews said. "It's not acceptable to accept this is a fait accompli, which you just did."
