Video from Iran’s Supreme Leader Reportedly Blames US for Paris Attacks

Ali Khamenei

A video reportedly produced by the office of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and posted to social media Tuesday blames the United States and its allies for the Paris terror attacks.

The video, posted to a Facebook page affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps and first reported by the Middle East Media Research Institute, explains that the U.S. created the Islamic State to advance its own agenda.

IS has claimed responsibility for the terrorist attacks in Paris that killed over 129 people and wounded hundreds more last Friday.

"France is going through sad bloody nights. Bloodiest blood has been shed on the streets of Paris, reportedly by the ISIS [Islamic State] terrorists," the narrator states as the video shows footage of the aftermath of the Paris attacks. "Many express condolences. Even the Saudi king and the U.S. president. The same ones whose involvement in creating the ISIS project is being exposed more than ever."

The narrator goes on to discuss how the terror group "emerged," citing Western media reports as evidence of the U.S. creating the terrorist group.

"Western media on November 2014 revealed that the ISIS was established as a result of a mistake by the government of the United States in Camp Bucca [in Iraq] during the process of creating an alliance between al Qaeda and the Ba'th party," the narrator states. "When [ISIS leader Abu Bakr] al-Baghdadi was released from the American Bucca prison in Iraq, he had already turned from a typical Ba'thi fellow into a super professional terrorist who had established a deep and rare relationship with both [the] Ba'th party and the al Qaeda in Iraq."

The narrator further alleges that the U.S. trained moderate Syrian rebels to "join" the Islamic State in the Middle East and purposefully dropped weapons into the hands of IS terrorists there. He also suggests that IS has been benefiting "financially" from Western media reports.

The video also includes footage of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton delivering congressional testimony about the rise of the Taliban in 2009 during which she stated, "Let’s remember here, the people we are fighting today, we funded."

"Of course, no one should be surprised by U.S. support for ISIS, as this was not unprecedented and American politicians had already admitted having supported al Qaeda," the narrator says in the video.

The video concludes with the narrator appearing to question al Qaeda’s involvement in the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.

"When the 9/11 tragedy occurred in the U.S., and while the main perpetrators of this event have not yet been introduced to the world, the U.S. government launched attacks Iraq and Afghanistan as a response, and started to spread insecurity and terrorism in the region for a decade," the narrator states.

"This act of war, in turn, distracted public opinion from Israeli crimes, the spread of terrorism in West Asia, and set many Muslim countries against one another. What are we going to witness after the Paris attacks?"

According to the Middle East Media Research Institute, Khamenei’s office was responsible for producing the video. The clip concludes with a picture of the address for the supreme leader’s website.
