Psaki Cannot Say if There Is an Impending Westgate Style Attack in Uganda

State Department Spokeswoman Jen Psaki said she would not get into the specifics of a warning issued last week concerning a possible impending Westgate style attack in Uganda Thursday in the State Department press conference.

The Associated Press' Matt Lee asked Psaki for clarification of the warning, as the way it is written seems to imply the State Department has knowledge of a specific attack that is forthcoming.

Psaki refused to get into specifics and would not say whether or not that was the case, telling Lee "we put out the statement because of our concern and because of information available. But in terms of the specificity of that, I'm not going to outline that":

MATTHEW LEE: Does the United States actually have credible and specific information that some group is plotting a West Gate mall-style attack in Kampala? Or is this just kind of you're aware that there is a general buzz about the possibility that it could happen?

JEN PSAKI: I'm not going to spell out the specifics of it and its meaning. Obviously, we put out the statement because --

LEE: Well --

PSAKI: Go ahead.

LEE: No, no.

PSAKI: We put out the statement because of our concern and because of information available. But in terms of the specificity of that, I'm not going to outline that.

LEE: OK, well, the last line of the -- the last line before it gets into the -- you know, the -- basically the B matter, about registering and stuff, do you have it there?

PSAKI: I thought I did, I don't think -- I can't find it right now, but I thought I had it.

LEE: All right, well, it speaks of -- not a threat, but it speaks of an actual attack. And I'm just curious, is -- was that poorly written or is it just a -- is this a threat that you're aware or is there an attack that you know is going to happen?

PSAKI: I will see if there is more we can provide. These things are written very specifically for reasons, so.

LEE: Yeah, except that since there hasn't been an attack yet, it seems to be not written well.

PSAKI: Clearly, when there's a concern, we provide information to American citizens.
