Stephanopoulos: Lot of People Thought Pence Was 'Mansplaining' at Debate

October 8, 2020

ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos accused Vice President Mike Pence of "mansplaining" during Wednesday night's debate.

After noting Pence's "calm demeanor," Stephanopoulos said, "I think a lot of people were noticing some mansplaining going on tonight."

"Mansplaining" is a derogatory term for men who condescendingly explain things or talk over women. Republican commentator Sarah Fagen disagreed with Stephanopoulos, saying Pence was respectful to Democratic opponent Kamala Harris and moderator Susan Page.

Despite liberal complaints that Pence spoke over his time too often, one unofficial reading found Harris talked more than three minutes longer than he did.

Stephanopoulos cut his teeth in Democratic politics and served as President Bill Clinton's White House communications director before transitioning to journalism.
