Stormtrooper with Plastic Gun Causes Lockdown in Kansas

A man dressed in a "Star Wars" stormtrooper outfit and holding a plastic gun for a video shoot prompted a lockdown in Salina, Kansas on Monday.

It all was a false alarm, KAKE reports:

Maybe he found the droids he was looking for. In any case, a man dressed as a "Star Wars" storm trooper caused a brief lockdown at a Salina business yesterday.

KSAL News reports that around 1p.m. Monday, Salina police officers were dispatched to the report of a possibly armed man in the 100 block of South 7th Street.

An area business owner and another man were working when they noticed the "trooper" outside carrying a gun. One of the men thought he may have been carrying an AK-47, and called 911.

Police advised the owner to lock up the business while numerous officers responded.

As it turns out, there was no danger. A man was visiting an attorney's office nearby, while his storm trooper friend was outside shooting a video for a website. He was carrying a plastic gun.

Stormtroopers were key villains in the Star Wars saga, although given the amount of shots they took and missed at such heroes as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia, they really couldn't be renowned for their accuracy.

Tuesday represented the first day of Kansas' new open carry law. No doubt if the stormtrooper had truly been up to no good, he would have been scared off by a local citizen who was packing.
