Ohio Planned Parenthood Facilities Dispose of Aborted Fetuses in Landfills

All three Planned Parenthood facilities in Ohio disposed of aborted fetuses in landfills, thereby violating state code, the attorney general announced Friday.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine began investigating the three Planned Parenthood facilities in the state in the wake of allegations that the abortion provider sold fetal tissue. While the investigation uncovered no evidence of Ohio Planned Parenthood affiliates selling aborted baby body parts, the attorney general revealed that aborted fetuses from the facilities were disposed of in landfills.

The Planned Parenthood facilities in Bedford Heights, Cincinnati, and Columbus all sent aborted fetuses to companies that disposed of the remains in landfills, the investigation found.

The facilities’ method of disposal therefore violated Ohio Administrative Code 3701-47-05, which was adopted in 1975 and requires that a "fetus shall be disposed of in a humane manner."

"Disposing of aborted fetuses from an abortion by sending them to a landfill is callous and completely inhumane," Attorney General DeWine said in a statement Friday. "It is important the public be aware that these practices are taking place at these Ohio facilities."

Moreover, officials at the Bedford Heights Planned Parenthood location told investigators that it uses only one company to dispose of fetal remains, but the company told investigators that corporate policy bars it from accepting such remains for disposal.

The findings have been referred to the Ohio Department of Health for further action.

Planned Parenthood has been the subject of intense scrutiny after a series of undercover videos accused the abortion provider, which receives federal funding, of selling fetal parts.
