MSNBC Anchor Thanks Democratic Lawmaker for Attempting to Pass Weapons Ban

MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle thanked a Florida State Democratic lawmaker on Wednesday for introducing legislation to ban assault weapons.

"I want to bring in Kionne McGhee. He's a Democrat in the state of Florida, he's a member of the House, and he is the one that tried to get this assault rifle ban bill put up for a vote," Ruhle said. "Thanks for your effort."

The Florida State House voted down a motion to consider a bill that would ban assault weapons, including the AR-15 and large capacity magazines. The bill was voted down 36-71 along party lines with Democrats voting for the bill and Republicans voting against it.  The bill defined assault weapon as "any selective-fire firearm capable of fully automatic, semiautomatic or burst fire at the option of the user." The bill goes on to list a number of firearms that would be considered an assault weapon.

The legislation came after a former student killed 17 people killed last Wednesday at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla.

When it comes to the issue of guns, Ruhle often advocates for gun control. Last Thursday, the MSNBC host urged Sen. Marco Rubio (R., Fla.) to "step up and be a human" while advocating gun control.

In the aftermath of the October Las Vegas shooting, Ruhle mocked gun owners who use silencers.

"Because the hunters, their ears were hurting," Ruhle said mockingly, putting her hands over her ears. "Because those hunters, their ears were hurting."
