EPA Administrator Tells Rappers: ‘We Need You’

Gina McCarthy

EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy told attendees of a music festival "we need you," in between groups who rapped, "Looking at that white girl, trying to get that white money," and "Got a super bad bitch, no ass, no tits, but I really do love her like shit."

McCarthy appeared at the "environmental justice" Broccoli festival on Saturday to raise awareness about climate change.

"It’s great to see so many young people who are so passionate about issues like the environment, keeping our communities healthy, and the issue of climate change," she said. "I want you to know that your voice is incredibly important and that’s why I am here to ask you to raise your voice every chance you get. There you go, because we need you!"

"EPA’s success only happens when your voice is joined in," McCarthy said. "So do me a favor, lend your voices, we’ve got to get this plan over the finish line and every community is going to benefit."

"We’re going to keep our energy affordable and reliable and we’re going to keep our communities healthy, but only if you work for it, only if you work with us," she added.

McCarthy said her remarks were a "break from the music."

That music included Rock Creek Social Club, who sang, "Put the motherf—g hands up in the sky. Sing this shit. We gonna be all right. N— we gonna be all right."

Sunny and Gabe, a Norfolk, Va., based group, shared their thoughts on the environment.

"We have gathered here today in celebration of our planet earth and all the good shit that earth gives us," they said. "The earth gave us—how long we been here? Since you been born motherf—r."

"So, let’s give back to the earth by contributing, I don’t know, just don’t throw trash on the ground," they said. "You know what I’m saying? Let’s go a day without eating meat. I can’t do that, but that’s what you ask for."

Another group started off their performance with, "Ladies, if you single, you have a job, and you’ve washed your ass in the last 12 hours, keep your hands in the air."

"Ladies, if you single, you have a job, you washed your ass in the last 12 hours and you ready to choose up, you need somebody to take you home, cook dinner for you, rub your back, leave your hands in the air," the rapper said. "Look, fellas, I told y’all they ready. They thirsty."

"Fly as hell" Tiara Thomas said she "smoked like four blunts" before she performed.

"So, I’m super high and my eyes are super low," she said, before she sang, "Listen, I don’t give a f—k that’s just how I do it. Sallie Mae’s a bitch, she be raping all the students."

Lightshow, named one of the 25 new rappers to watch out for by Complex.com in 2013, rapped about putting "holes in Texas Rangers."

"Got a fake bitch with some fake tits," he sang. "Got a super bad bitch, no ass, no tits, but I really do love her like shit."

"I’m from Southeast where it’s dangerous," Lightshow said. "We do not f—k with the cowboys, we put holes in Texas Rangers."

Tink, a "no-bullshit teenage feminist," rapped about white girls getting their white money.

"What the f—k is up? Let’s go. DC make some f—king noise," she said. "Looking at that white girl, trying to get that white money. Looking at that white girl. Kardashian, Kardashian, looking at that white girl, trying to get that white money."

"Looking at that white girl, Kardashian, Kardashian, whoa whoa, trying to get paid, n—," Tink sang.

The EPA did not immediately return a request for comment.
