Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) was mocked online after he said in a Reddit "Ask Me Anything" discussion that his "favorite book" is one he authored and is set for release later this month.
Asked about his favorite book, Sanders replied, "My favorite book at the moment is a brand new book that I wrote that will be coming out in a couple weeks called 'Where We Go From Here,'" Sanders replied, "and this book talks about the work that I and other progressives have been doing over the last two years in opposition to Trump’s reactionary agenda and how we go forward in creating a government that works for all, and not just the wealthy few."
Sanders was mocked by Reddit users, the Burlington Free Press reports. His response was voted down 5,000 times.
"When someone asks you, 'what's your favorite book', unless you're joking, you don't self promote your own book," wrote one user.
"LOL I love Bernie, but this was some serious pandering," another user wrote.
"This is honestly a terrible answer. It's egotistical, unrelatable, and is simply to push your book. Sorry, you can do better than this Bernie," someone else wrote.
"I've been passionately following Bernie since 2015 and this is the first time I went ‘BOOOOOOOO’ when reading something 'he’ wrote," another user added. "This is stupid and you should rectify it immediately. Don't come here and ‘fellow kids’ us."
It was the most disliked comment of the day on Reddit.
The book, a follow up to Our Revolution: A Future to Believe In, earned Sanders a $505,000 advance, according to Senate financial disclosure forms.
