Margaret Carlson: Terrorists in U.S. Maybe ‘Americanize’ and Don't Launch Attacks

Bloomberg columnist Margaret Carlson said Wednesday that terrorists who sneak into the United States could assimilate and not try to carry out attacks because of America's acceptance of other cultures on MSNBC's Morning Joe.

The video clip from NewsBusters shows Carlson explaining that the U.S., unlike France and the rest of Europe, has a history of successfully integrating immigrants, refugees, and others into American culture. Therefore, even members of groups like Islamic State may drop their ideology and anger after living in the U.S.

"You know, those people who have snuck in, that I don't know if they've snuck in, but maybe they become Americanized. Maybe the anger goes away. Maybe what they snuck in to do, they're not going to do because we [the United States] do have an acceptance of these people...They're more patriotic because they're here and they work harder."

Carlson gave her analysis as the panel on Morning Joe was discussing comments Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal made after announcing that he was dropping out of the Republican presidential race.

Jindal described how he traveled to Europe earlier this year and made a speech after the trip on how European countries were having problems with assimilating Muslim migrants.

He then said, "We must not let that happen here...Immigration without integration is not immigration; it's an invasion."

The focus on Muslim migrants trying to enter western countries from Syria and the broader Middle East, as well as North Africa, has become a point of contention after the Islamic State launched coordinated terror attacks in Paris last Friday night, resulting in at least 129 deaths and hundreds more wounded.

The terror group has declared its intention to infiltrate the refugee influx to launch attacks in the U.S. and western Europe, causing Republican governors and lawmakers to try to block President Obama's plan to bring 10,000 Syrian refugees into the United States.

The president argued that taking in refugees is the morally right course of action and that the U.S. has already brought in about 1,800 individuals in recent years without incident. Critics have said there needs to be a pause to evaluate whether the federal government has the ability to properly vet the refugees to determine if someone is a supporter of jihadist groups like the Islamic State.

Carlson's comments on terrorists assimilating in the U.S. comes days after the terror group released a video saying it has plans to attack Washington, D.C.
