Gary Sinise to Receive 'Service to America Leadership Award'

Oscar-nominated actor Gary Sinise will receive the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation's Service to America Leadership Award for his work supporting veterans.

"Gary Sinise is a talented actor who has brilliantly portrayed unique characters throughout his career," NABEF president Marcellus Alexander said in a press release. "His support for veterans has made a positive impact on America’s service men and woman who sacrifice so much for our country. We are pleased to present him with this distinguished award."

Sinise, who has starred in shows like CSI:NY and movies like Forrest Gump, has long used his fame and fortune to benefit active duty soldiers and veterans. He has volunteered and traveled overseas with the USO. His band, the Lt. Dan Band, often performs for troops and raises money for military charities. He helped found Operation International Children which helps US troops deliver school supplies to children around the world. And he created the Gary Sinise Foundation in 2011 to help veterans and first responders.

The National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation describes itself as "a non-profit organization dedicated to reinforcing the future of broadcasting through a commitment to education and to advancing excellence in the diversity and community service efforts of our industry." It issues the Service to America Leadership Award every year.
