Colbert Announces Comey to Appear on Show in April

Stephen Colbert announced Tuesday night that former FBI director James Comey will make his late-night television debut on Colbert's "The Late Show" on April 17.

Colbert made a big deal of the announcement on his show and joked "We’re gonna need a bigger chair and I’m gonna need a stepladder to interview the guy."

Comey's interview with Colbert is scheduled just two days after his ABC News interview with George Stephanopoulos will air.

When Colbert told his audience that President Donald Trump fired the then-FBI director in May of last hear, his comment resulted in unintentional applause from the predominantly left-leaning audience. Many Hillary Clinton supporters viewed Comey in a negative light over the FBI's investigation into Clinton's use of private email while secretary of state, with the former presidential candidate going so far as to place blame on Comey for her 2016 election loss.

The comedian then had to explain to his audience why the firing was problematic.

When Colbert told the audience that Attorney General Jeff Sessions recommended Comey's firing, the crowd booed accordingly.
