Local Reporter Spotlight: Madison Burke

Local reporting is like community service, but with more make-up. Volunteerism inspires the truly great local reporters to seek out and report on topics ranging from serious problems such as a community's dangerous pot holes to lighter fare such as the local pet show. People will climb over one another to report from a red carpet, but it takes a certain someone with a sterling community service record to share stories of people in the community.

KQFX’s Madison Burke owns the consumer protection beat in Jefferson City landing her in this week’s local reporter spotlight.

Madison is not afraid to get dirty. She decided to pitch in on some holes herself while warning the masses where to look out for car-destroying obstacles

Her work with the American Heart Association and the Alliance for a Healthier Generation may have earned her a college scholarship. However her dirtiest job was when she reported from failed Senate candidate Todd Akin’s campaign.

She's covered significantly more successful Missourians. Missouri is the Show Me State after all; show me how who's created more jobs: Rascal Claire McCaskill or Nelly?

One of Madison's recent volunteering endeavors was helping out at the Miss Amazing Missouri Pageant, a program designed for disabled young women to help build their confidence in a stage setting. These candidates have quite the role model in Madison.

That's because Madison was a beauty queen herself. Like previously spotlighted reporter Abby Eden, she was a contestant for Miss Missouri 2011.

Who would have thought Miss Missouri would exceed Syracuse's J-School in producing top flight reporters?

I'm beginning to see a link between outstanding beauty queens and even better reporters. Two states down, 48 to go.
