Poll: Most Voters Think Hillary Clinton's Email Practices Were Illegal or Unethical

More than two-thirds of American voters say Hillary Clinton's controversial email practices as secretary of state were either illegal or unethical, according to a new McClatchy-Marist poll.

A total of 28 percent said Hillary's exclusive use of a secret private server to conduct government business was illegal, while 40 percent said the arrangement was unethical, a position shared by 40 percent of Democratic voters. Only 27 percent of voters said they thought Clinton did nothing wrong, including a surprisingly low 49 percent of Democrats.

The results are in line with previous polls suggesting that voters simply do not trust Hillary Clinton. An NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found that just 27 percent of voters gave her positive ratings on the question of being "honest and straightforward," which is lower than the positive rating voters gave Donald Trump (32 percent).

The FBI continues its investigation of Clinton's private server and her handling of classified information. Fox News reported Thursday that the bureau has expanded its initial probe in an effort to determine if officials at the center of the investigation gave "materially false" statements to the investigation, a felony offense. The FBI is also looking into potential violations of the Espionage Act concerning "gross negligence" in the handling of sensitive national security information.

Hillary Clinton, 68, is considered the prohibitive frontrunner to win the Democratic nomination.
