FUN FACT: Bernie Sanders Has a Son Older Than Pete Buttigieg, Beto O'Rourke

Presidential frontrunner Bernie Sanders, 77, is the oldest candidate in the girthy field of Democratic primary candidates. Not only is he older than Hillary Clinton, 71, the socialist firebrand is also nearly as old as Nancy Pelosi, who at age 79 is one of the oldest congressional leaders in American history. Sanders is so old that he actually has a son who is older than two of his most formidable Democratic rivals, Pete Buttigieg and Beto O'Rourke.

Bernie's sole biological child, Levi Sanders, celebrated his 50th birthday in March. That makes him four years older than O'Rourke, 46, and more than a decade older than Buttigieg, who turned 37 in January. A handful of lesser Democratic candidates, including Cory Booker, (49), Julian Castro (44), Andrew Yang (44), and Tulsi Gabbard (38), are also younger than the Sanders scion.

In an addition to being around the same age, Levi Sanders and Beto O'Rourke have another thing in common: Their most recent political "accomplishment" was losing an election. Beto failed to defeat the notoriously likable Ted Cruz in the 2018 Texas Senate race, while Levi failed spectacularly in his bid for Congress that same year, winning just 2 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary in New Hampshire's 1st district; his own father declined to endorse him.

Bernie Sanders is only slightly older than Joe Biden, 76, who may or may not enter the presidential race at some point, but does not share Biden's tactile tendencies. Both men are older than President Donald J. Trump, who will turn 73 in June, and has been described by medical experts as "the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency."
