February 26, 2018

Ivanka Trump said in a recent interview that it was not a fair comparison to equate her to North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un's sister, noting she would rather be compared to the women in South Korea.

Trump spoke to NBC News host Peter Alexander in South Korea during her to trip to lead the U.S. presidential delegation to the closing ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games.

Alexander said that after Kim Yo Jong attended the Olympics opening ceremony, local media called her "North Korea's Ivanka." The supreme leader's sister serves as director of the North Korean regime's Propaganda and Agitation Department.

"Is that a fair comparison?" Alexander asked.

"I don't think so," Trump said. "I would far prefer to be compared to my sisters here in South Korea who are thriving in this incredible democracy."

Kim Yo Jong's time in South Korea at the beginning of the Olympic Games was widely covered–often positively–by the U.S. media. South Korean's found glowingly coverage "mind-boggling," according to MSNBC's Willie Geist.

During her trip, Trump focused on pushing a "maximum pressure" campaign against North Korea.

During a dinner with South Korean president Moon Jae-in, Trump was gifted two Olympic mascot dolls usually reserved for medalists.
