Trump: I Don't Think Oprah Will Run for President, but I'll Beat Her if She Does

January 9, 2018

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he will beat Oprah Winfrey if she runs for president in 2020.

Asked after a bipartisan immigration roundtable if he would beat Winfrey, Trump confidently said he would be victorious over the fellow billionaire and that it "would be very fun," but he added he doesn't think she will run.

"Yeah, I’ll beat Oprah. Oprah would be very fun," Trump said.

"I know her very well, you know I did one of her last shows," Trump said. "She had Donald Trump—this was before politics—her last week and she had Donald Trump and my family. It was very nice."

"No, I like Oprah. I don't think she's going to run," Trump concluded.

Reports that Winfrey was "actively thinking" about a potential presidential run came after she received the Cecil B. DeMille Award at Sunday's Golden Globe Awards.

The speech Winfrey gave was well-reviewed. She spoke on the importance of the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment, gender equality, and an independent press.

Some reporters have gushed over the idea of her launching a bid for the Democratic nomination. One of the country's most admired people, Winfrey is also a longtime ally of former President Barack Obama.
