President Donald Trump has become increasingly unfocused and frustrated in the White House, leading people close to him to worry that he is "unraveling," according to a new report.

A half dozen prominent Republicans and Trump advisers told Vanity Fair that the White House is in crisis, and that the president is "unstable" and "losing a step."

"I hate everyone in the White House! There are a few exceptions, but I hate them," Trump told his longtime security chief, Keith Schiller, according to two sources familiar with the conversation.

There is a new level of concern among Trump's staffers and longtime confidantes, who described the president as increasingly "consumed by dark moods," Vanity Fair reported.

Trump is still personally reeling from his decision to endorse Luther Strange, the losing candidate in last month's Republican primary in Alabama to fill Attorney General Sessions' old Senate seat.

"Alabama was a huge blow to his psyche," a person close to Trump said. "He saw the cult of personality broken."

Even before Republican Sen. Bob Corker (R., Tenn.), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, called the White House an "adult day care" after Trump attacked him on Twitter, some West Wing advisers worried that Trump's behavior could cause the Cabinet to take dramatic, constitutional measures to remove him from office, sources told Vanity Fair.

The report also described Trump's chief of staff, John Kelly, as "miserable in his job," adding that he is remaining in his post "out of a sense of duty to keep Trump from making some sort of disastrous decision."
