Cuccinelli Tells Symone Sanders to 'Shut Up' on CNN Panel

August 14, 2017

Former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli told CNN political commentator and former Bernie Sanders campaign press secretary Symone Sanders to "shut up" during a heated discussion on President Donald Trump's statements on Charlottesville, Virginia.

As Cuccinelli was speaking about the white supremacist protests that ultimately led to a man ramming a car into a crowd of counter-protesters and killing one on Saturday, Sanders cut over him and angered Cuccinelli.

"Can I finish, Simone? Will you just shut up for a minute and let me finish?" Cuccinelli said.

"Pardon me, sir, you don't get to tell me to shut up on national television," Sanders shouted back.

"Hold on," CNN host Chris Cuomo said, trying to inject calm.

"I'm sorry. Under no circumstances do you get to speak to me in that manner. You should exhibit some decorum," Sanders continued.

"I keep getting interrupted," Cuccinelli said.

The three continued to speak over each other, and Cuomo called for a reset.

"We don't tell people to shut up on this show. You can stand up for yourself and still be civil," Cuomo said.

"How do you make them stop talking when they keep interrupting you?" Cuccinelli said.

"We use civil discussion on this show. I know you both want that when you're at your best. There is no need for anything other than that on this program," Cuomo said.

"Well I'm still waiting for my apology from Mr. Cuccinelli to tell me to shut up on national television," Sanders said.

Sanders tweeted afterward about the incident, saying it was "supremacy" to be told to shut up. She also thanked Cuomo for defending her.
