Whoopi Goldberg Stuns 'The View' Audience With Rumor of Giuliani as Potential Next FBI Director

May 10, 2017

Whoopi Goldberg spread the rumor that Rudy Giuliani could be tapped to be the next FBI Director on Wednesday's "The View," drawing gasps and boos.

President Trump fired FBI Director James Comey on Tuesday, setting off a political firestorm and leading to rampant speculation about who Trump could nominate for the position.

"The big other question is who is going to take his place, because there's a rumor—and I want you all to take this calmly—that Rudy Giuliani–" she said, as an image of him splashed across the screen.

The crowd booed and the other panelists laughed.

"All right, whoa, get a hold of yourselves now, damn it, get a hold of yourselves," Goldberg said jokingly.

She finished her thought that Giuliani was "in the running" for the post.

New York Magazine reported that Giuliani was visiting the White House Wednesday, but Giuliani told reporter Olivia Nuzzi that his visit had nothing to do with the FBI post. A source told her, however, that his name was being considered by Trump.

Whoever is named to be the next FBI Director, however, would have to be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

In addition to being the former mayor of New York City, Giuliani was the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York in the 1980s. He currently serves as an informal cybersecurity adviser to Trump.
