MSNBC host Rachel Maddow tweeted Tuesday night promising the audience who tuned into her show President Donald Trump's tax returns.

The White House countered Maddow's 2005 tax return dump by preemptively releasing some of his 2005 tax information, Axios reported on Tuesday.

"WH numbers claim Trump made more than $150 million in income in 2005 and paid $38 million in income taxes that year, according to the AP," the report said.

Maddow first promised the tax returns via Twitter.

The second tweet then clarified that she only had a part of the president's returns, which were from 2005.

The Twitter community did not take to the new clarification. One user said that she was backtracking from the first tweet.

Another user said the 2005 returns are not news.

Other users took to Twitter to take a shot at Maddow for not saying what is in the 1040 form.

Maddow went on to unveil President Trump's 2005 tax returns on her show.
