Various media outlets said after Donald Trump's address to a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night that the speech showed a new side of the president.
The New York Times morning headline read, "Trump Offers Up a More Hopeful Vision. The Wall Street Journal said, "Trump's Speech to Congress Marks a Shift in Tone."
Congressional Democrats appeared to think differently on Tuesday night, refusing to shake Trump's hand as he entered the House chamber or stand before the speech began.
Many media publications portrayed Trump as putting forth a more unifying message to bring the country together, but many Democrats did not embrace the president's tone, doubling down on their political opposition to him.
Here are four moments from Trump's joint session speech when Democrats put politics above unity.
1. Congressional Democrats sat down early as the audience gave Carryn Owens, the widow of Navy SEAL William "Ryan" Owens, a standing ovation
Trump invited Carryn Owens, whose husband Navy SEAL Ryan Owens was killed last month during an anti-terrorism raid in Yemen, to attend the speech as his guest.
Trump honored Owens during the address and the audience stood up and applauded her for two minutes.
"Ryan died as he lived: a warrior, and a hero–battling against terrorism and securing our nation," Trump said. "Ryan's legacy is etched into eternity."
While Democratic lawmakers stood up and clapped for Owens, a majority sat down before the standing ovation was over and stopped clapping, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.). Many can be seen sitting at the 2:49 mark in the video below.
Democrats have criticized Trump for ordering the Yemen operation that resulted in Ryan Owens' death.
2. Democratic lawmakers refused to shake Trump's hand ahead of his speech
Democratic Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee (Texas), Eliot Engle (N.Y.), and Bill Pascrell (N.J.) claimed ahead of the address that they would not shake Trump's hand if given the chance.
"This will be the first time during my 29 years in the House that I have made this decision," Engle said of not shaking Trump's hands. He did note his deep respect for the presidency.
3. Democrats sat as Trump entered the House chamber
In the video below at the 18-second mark, Democrats can be seen sitting as Trump enters the chamber before beginning his speech.
It is customary for members of Congress and others in attendance to stand for the president as a sign of respect before the formal speech starts.
4. A Democratic congresswoman skipped Trump's first speech before a joint session of Congress
Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters (Calif.) told Mic that she skipped Trump's speech because she does not "honor this president."

ABC News reported Tuesday afternoon:
Rep. Maxine Waters (D., Calif.), the ranking member on the House Financial Services Committee, told House Democrats at a caucus meeting this morning that she will not attend the speech because she doesn't think she will be able to control herself, according to Democrats who attended.
On Wednesday morning, Donald Trump tweeted out a "thank you" after delivering his address.
