Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani announced on Thursday that he will lead a newly created cyber security committee for President-elect Donald Trump.

Giuliani made the announcement on "Fox and Friends" to head the committee and plans to bring together leaders of the private sector to discuss the best cyber security methods going forward. He said the committee will use creativity and access to funds in order to develop cyber security solutions for the Trump administration.

"My belief is, as always, that the answer to cyber security is going to be found in the private sector," Giuliani said.

The former New York City mayor added that another benefit of the cyber security committee will be Trump's access to the private sector in an organized way.

"The idea here is to bring together corporate leaders and their technological people. The president will meet with them on an ongoing basis as well as anyone else in the administration," Guiliani said.

Trump's transition team released a statement Thursday morning on Giuliani's newly announced position to help the president-elect on cyber issues.

"Rudy Giuliani will be sharing his expertise and insight as a trusted friend concerning private sector cyber security problems and emerging solutions developing in the private sector," the transition team said.

"In addition, from time to time because of the changing nature of this problem, it is contemplated that the president-elect will be hosting a series of meetings with senior corporate executives from companies which have faced or are facing challenges similar to those facing the government and public entities today, such as hacking, intrusions, disruptions, manipulations, theft of data and identities, and securing information technology infrastructure," the statement continued.

"No consensus advice or recommendations resulting from group deliberations or interaction is expected or will be solicited," it said.
