Benenson Continues to Say Clinton Didn’t Lie About Private Server Amid Criticism

August 2, 2016

Joel Benenson, the senior strategist for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, lambasted journalists on Tuesday who have said that Clinton has been dishonest about her private email server.

MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle pressed Benenson on accusations that Clinton continues to be untrustworthy about her email practices while she was secretary of state. Ruhle cited an article the Washington Post’s fact checker Glenn Kessler wrote Sunday saying Clinton has been dishonest on the email issue and Ron Fournier’s new piece, titled, "Why Can’t Hillary Clinton Stop Lying?"

Benenson dismissed Ruhle’s question and said that Fournier and Kessler need to check their facts.

"If either the journalist in the Atlantic or the [Washington Post] fact checker would go back and look at what [FBI] Director Comey said in testimony before Congress, that her answers during several hours of our interviews were truthful," Benenson said.

Benenson’s response doubles down on what he said Monday when MSNBC’s Kristen Welker asked him about Kessler’s fact check article giving Clinton "Four Pinocchios"

"I think the fact checker has failed to check his facts directly on this one and go back and look at what Director Comey said before Congress," Benenson said.

Fournier criticized in his article people like Benenson, who he argues are providing a disservice to the Clinton campaign by ignoring her dishonesty.

"That is why Clinton’s advisers, senior Democrats, and members of the liberal media need to stop covering for Clinton. Stop repeating her spin. Stop spreading her lies. Stop enabling her worse angels," Fournier wrote.
