WATCH: Commencement Speaker at NY-Funded School Goes on Anti-Semitic Rant Against Israel

May 30, 2023

A speaker at this month's graduation ceremony at the City University of New York Law School went on a tirade against Israel, leading critics to call for state funding to be stripped from the school.

"Israel continues to indiscriminately rain bullets and bombs on worshipers, murdering the old, the young, attacking the funerals and graveyards as it encourages lynch mobs," graduate Fatima Mousa Mohammed told the audience during the May 12 ceremony.

Mohammed called for a "revolution" against "white supremacy" and "indiscriminate" murder by the Israeli state.

"May we rejoice in the corners of our New York City bedroom apartments and dining tables, may it be fuel for the fight against capitalism, racism, imperialism, and Zionism around the world," Mohammed said.

The speech was met with calls for cutting taxpayer funding to the school, which is mainly funded by New York State.

"Raging antisemitism has fully consumed the City University of New York," former Republican gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin said. "Until the administration is overhauled and all Jewish students and faculty are welcome again, taxpayer funding must be immediately halted."

Democrats are also joining in the condemnation. Simcha Eichenstein, a Democratic state assemblyman from Brooklyn, called the speech "dangerous."

"This hate-filled and dangerous speech has been brought to you by @CUNY and paid for by New York taxpayers," Eichenstein said. "Keep this in mind next time our elected leaders highlight their commitment to fighting antisemitism."

Rep. Ritchie Torres (D., N.Y.) called the speaker "crazed."

"Imagine being so crazed by hatred for Israel as a Jewish State that you make it the subject of your commencement speech at a law school graduation," Torres said.

The remarks come after the Biden administration caved to anti-Israel activists by embracing a watered-down definition of anti-Semitism that permits holding the Jewish state to higher standards than other countries.
