WATCH: James Comer Investigates Hunter Biden Associate's Claims Following Free Beacon Report

House Oversight Committee chair discussed his plans in Fox News interview

House Oversight Committee chairman James Comer (R., Ky.) said Thursday he is investigating the claims of a think tank executive who says he has inside information about Hunter Biden’s Chinese business dealings.

In an interview with Fox News’s Maria Bartiromo, Comer responded to questions about a Washington Free Beacon report that Gal Luft, the co-director of the Washington, D.C.-based Institute for the Analysis of Global Security, claims to have shared information with federal prosecutors in March 2019 regarding Biden.

"We’re reaching out to him. We’re trying to communicate. We’re setting up a call," Comer told Bartiromo. Luft last month offered to "name names" regarding Joe, Hunter, and Jim Biden’s business affairs.

While Luft provided few details, the Free Beacon found that Luft and Hunter Biden had mutual links to CEFC China Energy, a Chinese energy conglomerate that is a central focus of Comer’s investigation into the Biden family’s business activities. CEFC China paid Hunter Biden around $6 million for consulting and legal services for Patrick Ho, a CEFC executive charged with bribing African officials. CEFC funded Luft’s think tank, which was founded by former CIA director James Woolsey.

Comer said he was aware of Luft and had tried to arrange meetings regarding Biden. Luft came forward with his information about Biden last month following his arrest in Cyprus on arms trafficking charges. Luft denies the charges and has threatened to reveal what he knows about the Bidens. He claims the Biden administration is targeting him for providing information about Hunter Biden to the FBI and federal prosecutors.

The Free Beacon reported that Luft’s attorney plans to submit letters to Congress regarding Luft’s case. The attorney, Robert Henoch, asserted that Luft is a "whistleblower" who is being targeted as part of "an attempt to discredit a witness with critical information about an ongoing congressional and DOJ investigation."

Luft’s emergence comes as other Biden associates have started to cooperate with the House Oversight probe.

"We’ve had three people that were involved in the Hunter Biden shady business schemes that have communicated with my committee staff this week. I think that’s a sign of good things to come," Comer said.

Eric Schwerin, a former Clinton administration official who managed many of Hunter and Joe Biden’s financial affairs, began cooperating with Comer’s committee last week.
