Here’s What You Missed On Twitter This Week, Vol. 5

February 12, 2023

President Joe Biden made it through the State of the Union, which was delivered well past the octogenarian president’s bedtime. Unfortunately, so did we.

Most of the country may have wanted to skip the president’s speech, but for the left-wing media, this was their Super Bowl. They lavished praise onto the speech that is almost unbelievable for anyone who sat through the thing.

Although Biden’s State of the Union was the biggest event of the week, White House officials trying to convince Americans that the economy is doing well and Biden half-addressing the classified documents scandal earned an honorable mention.

It was actually 'courageous' for Biden to be so weak on China, MSNBC anchor says

Left-wing media pundits drooled over Biden’s State of the Union address. Among the many Biden-obsessed talking heads taking to the screen was MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell, who applauded the president for not being tough on China.

"What Joe Biden did tonight by not taking on China more aggressively was politically courageous, if you will, in terms of the domestic support," she said.

Mitchell certainly wasn’t the only one who spent Tuesday night worshiping the president. Pundits called the speech "vigorous," "a little rowdy," "fun," and "brilliant." They raved that it was "cutting but jocular" and called it "lighthearted pugnaciousness," but mocked Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders’s response.

Top White House economic aide says administration's success is 'seen in lesser understood statistics'—like 'equity'

In an attempt to assure the public that the economy is strong, National Economic Council Director Brian Deese said the Biden administration’s progress is "best seen in lesser understood statistics."

Deese praised the "historically equitable nature of this economic recovery."

Does Biden bear any responsibility for the classified documents scandal? He doesn’t think so.

When a reporter asked Biden if he took "any blame for mishandling classified documents," the president responded with a resounding "no." He did not elaborate.

Aside from reading prepared statements and taking the occasional question after speeches, the president has not addressed the scandal. In the briefing room, press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has referred every question to the Justice Department and the White House counsel’s office.

Pete Buttigieg says the country is 'on the right track,' writes off 'negativity'

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said on Tuesday that the "actual results" of the administration’s economic policies "show that we’re on the right track."

"There's a lot of negativity certainly in Washington and being pushed out online," Buttigieg told MSNBC. "The president tonight will have the opportunity to make the case for why we need to finish the job."

A December Wall Street Journal poll found that 65 percent of Americans believe the economy will get worse in 2023. A recent Gallup poll found that 8 in 10 respondents believe both taxes and the federal deficit will increase in 2023.

Rachel Maddow is horrified at the lack of masks at the State of the Union

As lawmakers gathered on Tuesday before the State of the Union address, MSNBC host Rachel Maddow said the lack of masks gave her "the ugh."

There was "precisely one mask" in the room of 1,000 people, Maddow complained, pointing out "the average age" of those in attendance.

Biden melts down asking if any world leader would trade places with Xi Jinping

In a bizarre rant during his State of the Union address, Biden claimed that no world leader would change places with Chinese president Xi Jinping.

He challenged the audience to "name me a world leader who would change places" with the Chinese president before yelling "Name me one!" over and over.
