Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D., N.Y.) has a suggestion for families struggling with rising gas and food prices: Eat Chef Boyardee.

"That's what families have to do," Maloney, who heads the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, told Halston Media when asked what he'll do about gas and food prices. "I grew up in a family where if the gas price went up, the food budget went down, so by this time of the week we'd be eating Chef Boyardee if that budget wasn't gonna change."

Maloney did offer a few other solutions, the New York Post reported:

He then listed government actions to try to curb inflation, such as capping seniors' out-of-pocket Medicare expenses and negotiating to lower prescription costs.

"That's long overdue. In addition to that, we've released 90 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, that's what's taken about $1.30 off the price of a gallon of gas," he said. "That's a big help. We've got to do more to keep that price from going back up and keep it coming down."

Maloney's comments come just days after the Free Beacon reported that the Democrat hired a close friend with no experience for a taxpayer-funded job. Maloney also flaunts his visit to Hollywood's most exclusive private club.

The congressman is facing a tougher-than-expected race against Republican Mike Lawler. It's ranked as a tossup.
