Free Beacon Poetry Café Presents: 'What Is a Woman?'

Published in honor of Ketanji Brown Jackson's SCOTUS confirmation

April 7, 2022

Editor's Note: Washington Free Beacon ombudsman Biff Diddle recently submitted the following poem as part of his adult education coursework at University College Isle of Man. It was inspired by Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson's inability to define the word "woman" during her Senate confirmation hearings. Enjoy!

what is a woman?

a word like "woman" needs

neither context nor degree

in english or biology

to cop a feeling

of its meaning

to believe

is seeing. . .

when her bosom heaves

and body writhes sublimely

tickled pink as orchid leaves

unleashed on linen sheets

skin slithers glistening

lascivious obscene

serenity achieving

heavy breathing

every breath

believing. . .

"woman" is a word with meaning

never mind the word "competing"

college tries and cheap regalia

races "won" by cheating

chiseled deltoids

clashing genitalia

feats beyond comparing

swimsuits scintillate unsparing

fairness flouted in a sheath of shame

difference dwindles our sanity same

words are for nerds it's only a game

pathological cosplay deranged

democrats in disarray

trust the science

we believe. . .

a word like "woman" needs

no place in history between

the dawn of time and generation z

...the world and me and white fragility

the suffragettes' insufferable supremacy

the racist notoriety of r.b.g. yas kween

sojourner truth for what it's worth

a reckless unrepentant t.e.r.f.

whereas real heroes strive

to cancel comedy

to will a world

where boys give birth

and menstruate mightily

dominate the pool and jeopardy

we'll clap our hands and call it "equity"

wither femininity we'll teach the world to sing

lampoons of lin-manuel miranda's latinx apostasy

the loudest voices get a fucking ivy league degree

and gender-neutral sex dolls for "anxiety"

executives in training corporate simps

for china's muslim genocide

designer slave providers

but at least they

don't say

"don't

say

gay"
