California Dems Violate Their Own Mask Mandate at NFL Playoff Game

Gov. Gavin Newsom, Mayors Eric Garcetti and London Breed spotted cavorting with celebs, billionaires in luxury suite

January 31, 2022

California's leading Democrats violated their own mask mandate while cavorting with billionaires at SoFi Stadium during the NFC championship game in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Gov. Gavin Newsom was among the Democratic politicians spotted without a mask while mingling with donors and watching the game in a luxury suite. Mayors Eric Garcetti and London Breed were also there cheering on their respective hometown teams, the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers. Both were photographed in violation of state and local mask mandates.

The California Department of Public Health has mandated the use of masks in indoor public spaces, regardless of vaccination status, since Dec. 15, 2021. The mandate is in effect until Feb. 15, which means all Super Bowl attendees will be required to wear masks throughout the game, which will take place at SoFi Stadium on Feb. 13.

The Democrats were busted for violating the mask mandate when NBA legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson posted photos of the politicians on his Instagram account along with the following caption: "In the suite at the NFC Championship game with California Governor Gavin Newsom, LA Mayor Eric Garcetti, SF Mayor London Breed, Billionaires Alec Gores, my partner Mark Walter, Andy Rosenfield, former McDonalds CEO Don Thompson, my friend Rob Lowe and Dodgers EVP Lon Rosen!"

California's mandate states that "masks are required at all times unless actively eating or drinking." It does not include an exemption for taking photos with celebs or cavorting with billionaires in luxury suites. According to a Washington Free Beacon photographic analysis, the Democrats were not "actively eating or drinking" in the photos.

California Democrats have imposed some of the nation's strictest masking policies, yet have repeatedly been exposed for breaking their own rules. Newsom in particular has a long history of partying without a mask in violation of state and local mandates. Last year, Breed defended herself for violating the state's mask mandate while dancing at an indoor R&B concert by saying she was "feeling the spirit" of the music. (Fact check: The state mask mandate does not include an exemption for feeling the spirit.)
