Democratic president-elect Joe Biden said Wednesday he is "confident" that his son Hunter Biden did "nothing wrong."

Hunter Biden revealed last week that his taxes are under investigation by a federal prosecutor. The inquiry is reportedly focused on the younger Biden's lucrative business dealings in China, which he pursued while his father was vice president. During an event at the Biden transition headquarters in Wilmington, Del., Fox News's Peter Doocy asked Biden if he was sure that his son did nothing wrong. Biden replied, "I am confident."

Biden's Wednesday remark is the first time the president-elect has publicly addressed his son's tax investigation, according to Fox News.

Hunter Biden's tax obligations and foreign financial entanglements were a subject of scrutiny during Joe Biden's presidential campaign. The Washington Free Beacon revealed in August that the younger Biden paid off a $450,000 tax lien this summer despite having no discernible income. Joe Biden responded to attacks on his son at a debate with President Donald Trump, claiming Hunter Biden "has not made money, in terms of this thing about ... China."
