'Good Morning America' Hawks a Dem Fundraising Event in Georgia

December 4, 2020

ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos, a prolific Clinton Foundation donor and former Clinton White House aide, gave actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus an uncritical platform Friday to hawk a Democratic fundraising event and directed viewers to a website hosted by ActBlue, a Democratic fundraising platform.

Dreyfus appeared on Good Morning America promoting a table read of her HBO political satire Veep, and proceeds from the virtual event will go to the group America Votes to help Democratic efforts in the Georgia Senate runoffs. Dreyfus described America Votes as a "marvelous organization about educating voters."

The organization describes itself as the "coordination hub of the progressive community" and is partnered with left-wing groups like House Majority PAC, Planned Parenthood, and Priorities USA.

At the end of the segment, Stephanopoulos directed viewers to go to showupforgeorgia.com, a site hosted by ActBlue, where viewers can donate to Democratic organizations.

ABC News and representatives for Good Morning America did not respond to a request for comment.

Stephanopoulos, who anchors This Week as well as Good Morning America, was a top aide to former President Bill Clinton and also a donor to the Clinton Foundation, which he failed to disclose to ABC viewers. He apologized for not disclosing his donations after they were uncovered by the Washington Free Beacon.
