The first night of the Republican National Convention on Monday drew more than five times as many viewers on C-SPAN's livestream than the first night of the Democratic National Convention.
More than 440,000 viewers tuned in to C-SPAN's livestream coverage to watch the first night of the RNC—compared with just 76,000 who tuned in to the first night of the DNC last week. While official television ratings will come later today, the livestream views are an early indication that the RNC is drawing more interest than the DNC.
Though Joe Biden’s acceptance speech on Thursday attracted more than 21 million viewers—more than any other speaker at the convention—Hillary Clinton’s acceptance speech in 2016 attracted 21 percent more viewers. And 38 percent more people watched President Donald Trump’s acceptance speech in the same year.
Monday night’s RNC lineup included Sen. Tim Scott (R., S.C.), Reps. Jim Jordan (R., Ohio) and Matt Gaetz (R., Fla.), former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley, and Donald Trump Jr. Tuesday’s speakers will include First Lady Melania Trump, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Sen. Rand Paul (R., Ky.), and Eric and Tiffany Trump.
