New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D.) claimed hurricanes and tornadoes did not exist in New York before the rise of global warming.
"Anyone who questions extreme weather and climate change is just delusional at this point," Cuomo told MSNBC on Friday. "We didn't have hurricanes. We didn't have super storms. We didn't have tornadoes."
"This is a storm that came up just overnight, dropped about five inches of rain and it was literally a matter of life and death for people," he added.
Cuomo's claim about tornadoes and hurricanes not existing in New York before the rise of climate change is false. There were dozens of tornadoes in New York between 1952 and the early 1970's, according to the Democrat and Chronicle.
Hurricanes have also hit New York throughout the 19th and 2oth centuries, including a 1955 storm that dropped more than a foot of rain, according to NBC New York.
