Presidential candidate and spiritual guru Marianne Williamson was caught on a hot mic asking why conservatives treat her better than her fellow liberals do, but she claimed she was misquoted in a key part of it.
While still on camera after an interview with Eric Bolling on America This Week, Williamson seemed to suggest there's a cultural problem with the left that is evident in their mistreatment of her. She seemed to say she understands why many see the left as "godless," but she now denies that’s what she said.
"What does it say that Fox News is nicer to me than the lefties are?" she said. "What does it say that the conservatives are nicer to me? It's such a bizarre world."
"I'm a serious leftie, but they're so—I understand why people on the right call you godless. I didn't think the left was as mean as the right; they are!"
Williamson's comments on conservatives and Fox News being "nicer" to her were picked up around the media last week.

Two days later, however, she said she was misquoted and was actually pointing the finger at those on the right. She claimed she meant that conservatives see her as "godless," not that she understands why they see the left in general as godless.

The week before, however, she had decried the "overly secularized left" for the way progressives disregard people of faith following her tweets about prayer in response to Hurricane Dorian.
I was born and raised in Texas so I’ve seen it. Millions of people today are praying that Dorian turn away from land, and treating those people with mockery or condescension because they believe it could help is part of how the overly secularized Left has lost lots of voters.

Days prior, the Democratic Party had passed a resolution embracing the growing constituency of "religiously unaffiliated Americans." The resolution also blasted those who use "misplaced claims of 'religious liberty'" to justify bigotry.
Bolling's show is broadcast weekly by Sinclair Broadcast Group, although he had previously worked at Fox News.
Williamson did another interview with Bolling in which she said she had not expected to receive favorable treatment from liberals who support other candidates but had merely been shocked by having such negativity directed at her.
Williamson became the subject of frequent jokes for her spiritual language about politics, but her poll numbers did not grow substantially, and she failed to qualify for the most recent primary debate.
