Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) retweeted a Monday tweet mocking an assault on Sen. Rand Paul (R, Ky.) that left Paul hospitalized.

Paul was attacked from behind in November 2017 by his neighbor Rene Boucher after a minor dispute over yard debris, leaving the senator with six broken ribs and an injured lung. Court documents indicate Paul later developed pneumonia from his injuries and missed several votes in Washington. Boucher pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 days in prison.

After Paul criticized Omar for perceived anti-Americanism and offered to buy her tickets to her native Somalia, Omar retweeted a series of tweets criticizing Paul in turn. One of them, from actor and Resistance Twitter mainstay Tom Arnold, mocked the 2017 assault and said it was "no wonder" it happened.

Omar's retweet making light of Paul attack comes despite her previous insistence that her critics, including fellow Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Tx.), were guilty of "dangerous incitement" given the death threats she regularly faces.

MSNBC host Kasie Hunt and Pod Save America host Tommy Vietor were among others who made light of the attack on Paul, with Hunt calling it her "favorite story of the day" and Vietor telling Paul to "start doing a better job not getting beat up by your neighbor." Both eventually apologized.
