Joy Behar: Women in the Debate 'Kicked Butt,' Except Gillibrand

And Williamson, Behar added

June 28, 2019

The View co-host Joy Behar declared all the women in the Democratic debates to have "kicked butt," with the exception of Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D., N.Y.).

Upon further pressing by conservative co-host Meghan McCain, Behar added Marianne Williamson.

Behar, a staunch liberal, lavishly praised the performance of Sen. Kamala Harris (D., Calif.) in her attack on former vice president Joe Biden and said the good news stemming from the two nights of debates were "the women kicked butt."

"No, Gillibrand did not," McCain shot back, pronouncing the New York lawmaker's name with a hard G.

"Not her," Behar said, agreeing.

"Gillibrand and Marianne Williamson did not kick butt," McCain said, referring to the spiritual guru who said her first call as president would be to the prime minister of New Zealand.

"I'm not counting her," Behar said. "I'm talking about [Amy] Klobuchar was great, Elizabeth Warren was great, and also Kamala [Harris]."

"Having a vagina didn't make you do good in the debate last night," McCain said. "The people who were good did good."

"Having a penis didn't help at all!" Behar said.

The View airs weekdays on ABC.

Behar also forgot about Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D.) who debated the first night. With Williamson receiving outsized media attention for her unusual affect and responses and Harris receiving praise for her exchange with frontrunner Joe Biden, Gillibrand was largely an afterthought on the second night.
