Shots were fired in Washington, D.C., Friday afternoon, leading the White House complex to be placed on lockdown.

CNN reported that a male suspect appeared to brandish a weapon near a security post close to the White House, leading Secret Service agents to shoot the man. The male suspect was subsequently taken into custody, and the lockdown at the White House was later lifted.

President Obama was said to be golfing at the time and was not on White House property. Vice President Joe Biden was secured at the complex during the incident.

"No one within or associated with the White House was injured, and everyone in the White House is safe and accounted for," a White House official said in a statement. "The president has been made aware of the situation."

The U.S. Park Police first reported the shooting nearby the White House, writing on social media that the incident took place on W. Executive Drive.
