After two years of intense training, former Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Alvarez flexed his way back onto the public stage, winning first place in the National Physique Committee’s South Florida "Over 60s" Master’s Bodybuilding competition.
His physique described as "Hulk-like," Alvarez appeared to be far from someone eligible for social programs, but was still recognizable as a former mayor of the Mi-yayo.
"When I saw him walk in, I said, ‘Wow, I know him,’" said event promoter Sergio Pacheco, as told to the Miami Herald.
The "Over 60s" Master’s Bodybuilding champ was more disciplined in his diet than in his tenure in office. He was recalled from office in 2011 after it was revealed that he had awarded allies more than $600 million dollars to build the Miami Marlins new ballpark in Little Havana.
Alvarez’s current employment status is unknown. However, the former mayor does have enough free time to push actual weights at local Miami-area gyms.
"I was kind of surprised when I saw him. He must always have been in good shape, but he was in real good shape, " a local photographer who documented Alvarez’s hard-earned victory said to the Herald.
The Miami fitness scene will soon be brought to the national stage in Pain and Gain, whose star Dwayne Johnson recently endured internal bleeding in his lungs. Because production is complete Michael Bay most likely will be unable to write in a cameo for Alvarez to capitalize on the former mayor’s newfound fitness fame. It is unknown if Alvarez was used as an extra.
It is also unknown if former California Governor Gray Davis has competed in local Sacramento bodybuilding competitions.
