International Movement Speak Up protests took place yesterday in both London by Speak Up and in Paris by “Russie-Libertes.”

As a tradition these protests have been taking place in London on the 31st of every month since 2010, but this is the first time they have been coordinated with protests in Paris.

The focus of the protest this month is the London Olympics and the accompanying arrival of the Russian high-command including Medvedev and Putin.

The protesters held banners that demanded the release of political prisoners and the boycotting of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, if Russian authorities refuse to do so. Their main call was for the immediate release of Pussy Riot.

Marina Litvinenko, widow of Alexander Litvinenko, and Jamison Firestone, a former boss of Sergey Magnitsky came to support the protests in London.
