New York state is quickly becoming ground zero in the fight over free speech and corporate political spending as a top state official with ties to left-wing campaign finance reform groups attempts to pressure private companies into making their political contributions public.

N.Y. Dem Profits from Unions He Defends

The New York State Comptroller has been profiting from the very unions he defends on a near-daily basis, according to a report by the New York Daily News. Eight of Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s ten biggest campaign donors are unions, a sector that DiNapoli has vocally defended from reform, the report states.
