The White House was placed on a brief lockdown Tuesday afternoon due to a fence jumper at the Eisenhower Building.

The Secret Service confirmed to NBC Washington that the White House was placed on lockdown after a man jumped a fence near the White House. Press were not being allowed in or out of the building as of about 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The Secret Service said later that the individual who jumped the fence is a suspect in a nearby robbery. The individual was taken into custody by the Secret Service.

The lockdown, described by the Secret Service as a "condition yellow," was lifted about a half hour later, though members of the press were still restricted and Lafayette Park remained closed to pedestrians.

A spokesperson for D.C. Fire and EMS told NBC that a man jumped the fence at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which is adjacent to the White House, close to the area of 17th and G streets, Northwest.

D.C. Fire and EMS later said that the man was transported to an area hospital for an evaluation after sustaining a possible injury to his hand.

Several individuals have successfully jumped the White House fence in recent years. Earlier on in April, a man was arrested after jumping over the north fence of the White House shortly before midnight.
