What Happened to Hillary Clinton

Former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has done a barrage of interviews for her new memoir What Happened.

Clinton's new book discusses her experience during the 2016 campaign and her shocking loss to political newcomer Donald Trump. In her book, Clinton blames a variety of people and things for her loss. She criticizes her primary opponent, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.), for his attacks paving the way for Trump's "Crooked Hillary" campaign.

"Because we agreed on so much, Bernie couldn't make an argument against me in this area on policy, so he had to resort to innuendo and impugning my character," Clinton writes. "Some of his supporters, the so-called Bernie Bros, took to harassing my supporters online. It got ugly and more than a little sexist."

"When I finally challenged Bernie during a debate to name a single time I changed a position or a vote because of a financial contribution, he couldn't come up with anything," Clinton adds. "Nonetheless, his attacks caused lasting damage, making it harder to unify progressives in the general election and paving the way for Trump's 'Crooked Hillary' campaign."

Clinton also hit Sanders for not being a member of the Democratic Party.

"But he isn't a Democrat—that's not a smear, that's what he says. He didn't get into the race to make sure a Democrat won the White House, he got in to disrupt the Democratic Party," Clinton says. "I am proud to be a Democrat and I wish Bernie were, too."

Clinton also does not hold back against former FBI Director James Comey. She blames his actions for her loss and said in one interview last week that he should have been "disciplined" for his conduct.

"He should not have been fired for Russia," Clinton said. "He should have been disciplined—whether or not fired, that's not for me to say. But he should have been disciplined for the way that he behaved on the email investigation, and in fact, the deputy attorney general, backed by the attorney general of this administration, laid out in excruciating detail all of the protocols and rules that he broke."

Clinton added that she believes she would have defeated Trump had Comey not reopened the FBI's probe into her emails 11 days before the election.

"Look, absent that, and I believe the evidence shows, I would have won," Clinton said. "Were this headwinds? Yes. Were there lots of other issues and this whole interference by Russia is still an issue? Absolutely. But the role that he played historically was determinative."

While on her book tour, Clinton revealed that she was not willing to grant "absolution" to women who told her that they did not vote for her in 2016.
